More about dry needling

What is Dry Needling?

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique that uses a thin, solid needle, similar to those used in acupuncture, to penetrate the skin and stimulate underlying tissues. This approach is designed to treat neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments by targeting neural, muscular, and connective tissues, as well as trigger points throughout the body. Dry needling is a safe, cost-effective, and low-risk treatment that can help alleviate pain and improve mobility.

How Does It Work?

The science behind dry needling involves its ability to affect the body, brain, and nervous system to promote healing. Pain signals are transmitted from the body to the brain, alerting us to discomfort. Dry needling disrupts this signal, effectively reducing the perception of pain. Additionally, it triggers the release of chemicals like natural opioids, which reduce pain, as well as substances that decrease muscle tightness, increase blood flow, reduce inflammation, and accelerate healing.

Who Can Benefit?

Dry needling has been shown to help with a wide range of symptoms and conditions, and ongoing research continues to expand its potential uses. It is particularly effective in reducing both active and latent trigger points that cause localized or referred pain. It can also be beneficial for conditions like chronic tendinitis, tendinosis, joint arthritis, jaw pain, headaches, and chronic pain.
